Pauline Winterstein
Registered Massage Therapist, Craniosacral Therapist

Pauline arrived in the Bow Valley in 2001 and worked in Recreation and Rehabilitation Therapy Services. Over the years Pauline has worked with children in the school system, respite work for families, and continuing care facilities with seniors. Switching to massage wasn't a stretch in wanting to help others enjoy life to the fullest.

Pauline graduated as an RMT from MH Vicars in 2009 and is licensed with NHPC. Over the years she has enhanced her clients massage experience with continuing education in therapeutic, deep tissue, myofascial release, myofascial cupping; or something more gentle with Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, reflexology or cranial sacral therapy (Upledger Institute). She specializes in migraine tension, headaches, TMJ and concussion symptoms.

Feeling stressed and anxious? Struggling with an injury or pain? Or perhaps you’re having a hard time recovering from exercise? If so, book a massage! Its benefits go beyond relaxation and stress relief.

Massage therapy not only calms your mind but also relieves pain, improves joint function, and speeds up healing. There are tremendous benefits to be achieved through regular massage therapy treatments from our Registered Massage Therapists.  Whether your need is to have a moment of relaxation, reduce muscle tension or attain relief from chronic pain, a therapeutic massage can enhance your overall sense of emotional and physical well-being.

Why massage feels so good and has many health benefits:

  • Stimulates the release of hormones (endorphins and enkephalins) that reduce anxiety, stress, and pain

  • Lowers levels of stress hormones (norepinephrine, epinephrine, and cortisol), which reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, slow breathing, and relax muscles

  • Increases levels of oxytocin, which is a hormone that increases social bonding and behaviors like trustworthiness, generosity, and empathy

  • Reduces activation of pain receptors in the spinal cord and muscles

  • Blocks the production of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, interleukin-6, and HSP-27), which stops swelling and inflammation of muscle tissue

  • Increases blood flow to muscles, connective tissue, and the lymph nodes

Reiki Training

Why Learn Reiki? The Benefits to You and Others

You can learn reiki to give you a practical way to take your health and wellbeing into your own hands. By learning how to move energy and affect energetic systems, you’ll be able to use that knowledge to improve your own health and the health of your loved ones.

It’s important to maintain an active presence of healers in every community, and to learn reiki is to join with other natural healers around the world to help make the world a healthier, more positive place to live while at the same time directly healing your immediate friends, family and neighbours.

Who Practices Reiki?

While all healers affect life energy, not all healers use reiki. Reiki is a specific form of energy medicine, and can only be performed by someone that has been attuned to it. Anyone can be attuned to practice reiki, and once you have been attuned you retain the gift of reiki for the rest of your life.

Reiki is part of the Eastern energetic medical tradition, and is even beginning to find a place in western hospitals. Nurses and volunteers are receiving training and attunements, and in some places reiki training qualifies for nursing continuing education credits.

Reiki is practiced in communities around the world, by everyday people and by medical professionals both in the alternative and traditional healing worlds.

Wellness Retreats

For some, the decision to embark on a reinvigorating health retreat is an effort to preserve your health. Perhaps you are hoping to improve your lifestyle or maybe just simply escape from your daily life. There's no question that a wellness retreat has optimal power to enhance your health by eliminating bad habits, encouraging positive behaviour and diving deep into your soul. Regardless of why you have chosen to engage in a wellness journey, one thing is clear - its restoring power for your mind, body and health is transformative.

In today's rapidly evolving, fast-paced culture, it can be near impossible to find a minute to yourself. Often there's hardly a free moment to catch your breath, let alone clear your mind. That's why for many, just the thought of booking a getaway to a warm, tropical destination and unplugging from emails, obligations and commitments is enough to cleanse your thoughts. Spending time away from your daily routine can invigorate your senses and allow you to see things more clearly. With our wellness retreat, you gain the valuable opportunity to do just that – to restore, recharge and refocus your mind.

Natural birth is not a new concept! Our ancient mothers and sisters birthed naturally without the use of anaesthesia or many of the interventions that are common today. The Hypnobirthing program can help you to prepare for a calm and positive natural birth; whilst at the same time having the knowledge and tools to effectively deal with any special circumstances if they were to arise.

Hypnobirthing is as much a philosophy of birthing as it is techniques. When a mother and her birth partner are able to approach their birth without fear and with knowledge, good support, and tools for the birth – then their birthing can be a positive and empowering experience.

The ‘hypno’ part of ‘hypnobirthing’ refers to the hypnotherapy that we use during the program to release fears and condition ourselves to release endorphins at times during our birth. With the help of hypnotherapy, the birth of your baby can be a more calm and relaxed experience; one where you are in the driver’s seat, rather than feeling like a passenger. This is likely to reduce the need for interventions during your birthing.

Hypnobirthing uses a combination of different techniques and philosophies that have existed for many, many years. Ancient wisdom is combined with modern theory – giving you the advantage in your acquisition of knowledge as you prepare for your birth.

Your Kind Words

I’ve had the most fortunate pleasure of enjoying many massages from Hayley. The most memorable for me was a 2 hour pampering by this amazing woman that left me feeling calm, focused and rejuvenated in both my mind and body. Hayley has a special gift for her craft and I highly recommend everyone to make some time for themselves to visit her at her in Canmore.
